Chris Knowles has been involved with the International Civil Liberties Alliance since its early days.  He became interested in sharia related human rights issues following the Danish Cartoons Crisis when politicians failed to support the principles of freedom of expression.Up until that time he had been a member of the British Labour Party where he held office at local level as Chair of his local branch and Chair of his the party’s local youth group.  While involved in local politics he was a school governor and member of the local Community Health Council which advocated patients views within the local health service. He left the Labour Party due to its lack of support for freedom of expression.He was educated at the University of Durham where he obtained a Bachelor of Science honours degree in Geography in 1993, and the University of Leeds where he obtained a Master of Arts degree in Modern International Studies in 1994.He is a member of ICLA’s Board of Directors and is currently leading ICLA’s latest project, the Victims of Sharia Action Network (VOSAN). He has represented the organisation at Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Human Dimension meetings.
