The way Rimsha Masih is being treated is an example of the sort of thing that United Nations Resolution 16/18 which claims to be against religious discrimination wants to become a global norm.

The wording of Resolution 16/18 is as follows:

“Combating intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatization of, and discrimination, incitement to violence and violence against, persons based on religion or belief”

The above resolution resulted from the ongoing Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) campaign for a global blasphemy law.  Pakistan is a member of the OIC.

The efforts of the OIC are clear – UN Resolution 16/18 and the associated Istanbul Process are mechanisms to ensure global sharia compliance and have nothing to do with a genuine concern about religious intolerance.  Rather than ending religious persecution around the world, UN Resolution 16/18 will effectively institutionalise it.  This is illustrated very clearly be the way Rimsha Masih is being treated in Pakistan.

More details about the case of Rimsha Masih can be found in THIS article at the website of the British newspaper The Guardian.
