ICLA Praises Organisers Of The Passion For Freedom Art Festival To Be Held In November 2012
The protection of Freedom of Expression is an extremely important part of the mission of the International Civil Liberties Alliance (ICLA). We would therefore like congratulate the organizers of the ‘Passion for Freedom’ art competition.
Freedom is something that is taken for granted, but in modern Britain and across the world it is something that is under almost constant attack. This is art competition is a great way to highlight the increasing threat to freedom.
In July 2012 ICLA launched the Brussels Process at a conference in the European Parliament. This Process is an inclusive framework for opposition to the threat to freedom posed by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The OIC’s continuing attempts to criminalise free speech and institute a global blasphemy law are unacceptable as are the actions of Western governments who give these efforts credibility. It is not necessary to be part of our organisation or to work directly with us to contribute to this process because it is about principles not organisational allegiance. We feel that this art competition is in keeping with the principles of the Brussels Process and therefore wish it every success.
The art event takes place from 3 – 10 November 2012. More information can be found on the Passion for Freedom website.
