Signs of Climb-down in Wakefield Palm Cross Row
Readers of this website will have seen how the global Counterjihad has been involved in a campaign to support the rights of Wakefield electrician Colin Atkinson, the Christian at the centre of the ‘Palm Cross Storm’ who had been threatened with disciplinary action for displaying a palm cross in his work vehicle. We have been mobilising our networks since we heard of this outrageous situation. An article on the Daily Mail website suggests that Mr Atkinson will now be allowed to display this Christian symbol in his van. See the Daily Mail article for more details.
It would therefore appear that the pressure that has been applied by the public has paid off at least for Colin Atkinson. Though Trudy Atkinson had the following to say on the Facebook page ‘Save Colin Atkinson’s Job’:
“I would read todays newspaper articles with caution…formal agreement yet to be made. I’ll believe it when he has it in writing. They have made lots of promises they didn’t keep over the last two years.”
And:
“Please note contrary to newspaper articles and TV coverage regarding my dad’s case today NOTHING has been agreed and formalised with his employer. Proposals to resolve the situation are being discussed and negotiations are ongoing.”
The International Civil Liberties Alliance believes (though of course we could be wrong) that Wakefield District Housing (WDH) will indeed formalise their agreement and that Mr Atkinson will keep both his job and his cross. However, we very much doubt that a full public apology for this debacle will be forthcoming and that it will only be a matter of time before the next Christian or person celebrating another aspect of traditional English culture will be singled out by some other organisation in some other part of the country.
We look forward to seeing evidence of any procedures that are put in place by WDH to prevent this happening again within that particular organisation, and evidence of how such good practice will be shared with other similar organisations. We will of course keep a keen lookout for any future victimisation of Colin Atkinson at the hands of his employer.
As the general issue is of broader concern we would like to see statements from all the local MP’s on this issue as well as from all candidates in the forthcoming local elections. Voters will need to be sure about whether the candidates support or oppose the poor treatment of those who follow English cultural traditions. We would also like to ask British Prime Minister David Cameron whether this sort of debacle was what he was referring to when he suggested that multiculturalism had failed. What specifically is he doing personally to ensure that British multiculturalism is mended? The two tier system still seems to be developing apace and freedom of expression still seems to be under unrelenting assault. There is a great deal of work to do to restore traditional English freedoms and there is so little evidence of anything being done to even begin to remedy this situation on the part of the political class.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the activists of the global Counterjihad who have contributed positively to this campaign. However, we would urge them all to continue to monitor the situation closely and to look out for other similar situations that will undoubtedly arise in other parts of Britain and indeed in other parts of the world. If you become aware of such situations then please leave a comment about them under one of the articles on this website.
